Transportation Schedule
SkillsUSA Championships 2008
The buses are numbere=
d 1, 2,
and 3 for assignments to and from Kansas City. It is mandatory that you ride only=
the
bus you are assigned in order to maintain a balance of contestants and advi=
sors. Buses will not be traveling
together, so if you are not at your pick-up stop at the designated time you
will not be able to make the trip.
You will be unable to ride a different bus if you miss the one assig=
ned,
so please be at your designated pick-up location 30 minutes before <=
b>the
scheduled departure time. The
times given on the schedule are departure times for each location so please
allow time to load luggage, tool, etc.
Luggage should be kep=
t to a
maximum of two medium-sized bags and a small carry-on. The carry-on should be placed in t=
he
overhead racks and packed with what you need enroute=
span>
to Kansas City. If there a=
re any
empty seats on the bus, they are designated for advisors, and assignment at
their discretion.
The following bus
coordinators, with the assistance of other advisors on each bus, will be in
charge of keeping a head count and supervising the delegation while enroute. These
people have the ultimate authority for making decisions related to their
respective buses.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Buses are staggered t=
o arrive
at different intervals in Kansas City.&nbs=
p;
It is important to do this to make room assignments easier. When you arrive in Kansas City, yo=
u will
report to the lobby with your assigned advisor to pick up room keys,=
do not go to the front desk. =
After
you come to the lobby and get your room key, you may unload your luggage fr=
om
the bus.
There will be a ma=
ndatory
meeting for the entire delegation at 6:30 pm, location to be announced =
upon
arrival. The SkillsUSA knowle=
dge
test will be given at this meeting and important contest information will be
provided, you must attend.
Also, on Friday night, immediately following the awards ceremony, we
will have another mandatory meeting, along with a pizza
celebration. You must attend =
this
meeting!!!! Other re=
quired
meetings are your contestant meetings, industry tours, Opening Session, and=
the
Awards Session.
For the return trip h=
ome on
Saturday, the departure time will be announced at the Monday night. You will need to pack the night be=
fore
and have your rooms in order for check-out. Any charges to=
your
room for phone calls, etc. MUST be
cleared on Friday night. Y=
our
bus will not depart until these are paid in full. Public relations for West Virginia,
Career and Technical Education, and West Virginia SkillsUSA are very import=
ant,
so be sure and leave a good image of our state by leaving your rooms neat a=
nd
not trashed.
If you have any furth=
er
questions before the trip be sure to call your advisor or local SkillsUSA
coordinator. Check all con=
test
rules and updates carefully so you don’t leave anything behind needed
for competing in your contest. <=
/span>Check
the National SkillsUSA website for any last minute changes. It is not easy to obtain forgotten=
items
in Kansas City, so please tend to all these details prior to departure.=
A major activity that=
takes
place at the national conference is the trading of pins from individual
states. This is the best way =
to
meet other people from different states and be one of the most memorial thi=
ngs
in years to come when you look back on your trip to Kansas City. I encourage you to budget a little=
extra
money in order to participate in pin trading. Our state officers will be in char=
ge of
selling state pins for trading. The
price of =
pins
is $1.00 each. You will r=
eceive
5 complimentary pins from WV SkillsUSA to get you started. Once the balance of pins are sold that is it fo=
r this
year, so when you buy those pins do it early!!!

n be
relayed to your parents, etc. during the week of our stay in Kansas City.
For
faster service at rest stops, the buses will not be traveling together. Advisors will coordinate driving b=
reaks
with the bus drivers to ensure that groups do not arrive at the same locati=
ons
at the same times.
