Alumni and Friends Scholarship

The SkillsUSA Alumni & Friends Association is offering two merit-based $500 scholarships to qualifying students. The scholarships recognize the outstanding qualities of SkillsUSA students including leadership, commitment to community service, improving the image of career and technical education, and improving the image of a students chosen occupation. SkillsUSA Alumni Sign Ups Needed-Continue the Journey!

SkillsUSA membership is an exciting part of the technical program for many students, and we want to help all program graduates to continue their SkillsUSA experience. SkillsUSA encourages all spring 2010 high school or college graduates to join the SkillsUSA Alumni & Friends Association. We are extending our offer of free alumni memberships to all currently registered members. Alumni Members are sent a membership card, a link to our online magazine, SkillsUSA Champions, a quarterly newsletter, as well as the online Alumni forum. SkillsUSA is working to provide more networking opportunities for alumni and more opportunities for involvement at the local, state and national level. CTE Month and SkillsUSA Week Events and Activities Reminder

February is Career and Technical Education Month and February 7-13 is SkillsUSA Week. SkillsUSA Week activities are a great way to highlight the good work your state association and local chapters are doing. For SkillsUSA Week ideas, see the Chapter Management section on the SkillsUSA Web site. Sharon Melton Myers Memorial Scholarship
Through a donation from the Sharon Melton Myers Memorial Fund, SkillsUSA and the
McMinn County (Tenn.) Vocational Center SkillsUSA Alumni Association are offering a
$500 scholarship to a SkillsUSA student in memory of Sharon Melton Myers.
The Sharon
Melton Myers Memorial SkillsUSA Scholarship fund will provide graduating SkillsUSA
members the opportunity to continue their education in college or technical school.
Candidates can nominate themselves. All nominations must include two letters of recommendation
from any of the following individuals: a) instructors; b) SkillsUSA advisors; c)
State Association Director; d) Community leader.
Nominations must be postmarked by April 30, 2010.

Call for Talent!
Do you have a talented singer in your state who would enjoy a special performance opportunity?
SkillsUSA is seeking singers for the Opening Ceremony or Awards Ceremony during
the 2010 SkillsUSA National Conference. We are looking for a SkillsUSA student
member to sing the National Anthem or another patriotic song appropriate for opening a
general session. Singers may sing a capella or to a pre-recorded instrumental track. Send in
all audition videotapes on DVD, postmarked by February 1, 2010 to Karen Perrino,
SkillsUSA, 14001 SkillsUSA Way, Leesburg, VA 20176. Questions may be directed to

National Technical Honor Society to Offer Scholarship
SkillsUSA has once again teamed up with the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS)
to promote outstanding student achievement within technical education. SkillsUSA is
offering four $1,000 scholarships through NTHS (two college/postsecondary and two
high school), and these will be awarded at the 2010 national conference. The deadline is

Leadership Forum Offered
Trying to kick off the new Skills USA year with a bang? Consider offering the Student Leadership Forum at your school. The forum is a 5-hour introduction to the student-led organization. Students and advisors explore the traditions of Skills USA as they participate in a variety of team building exercises and begin to construct a Program of Work. Please contact the office if you are interested in hosting a Leadership Forum at your school.
